1. Are both professionals and amateurs allowed?
Yes, all people are welcome. We have many art tutors and amateurs, all abilities and all ages. Schools are welcome, but they may find it difficult to fit some months into timetables.
2. How many can be in a group?
Two, you and as many friends as you like. Please let us know your friend’s or group name beforehand so your group name can be on the rail label.
3. How many artists will there be?
In 2008, 57 artists booked by 23.2.08. They will use 50 sites as some are shared. We allow a space between each site and you will put your car on the land side opposite your art. If you bring a gazebo you will have two spaces so you can put your car next to the prom railings between gazeboes. The maximum number of sites will be 61 to 75 depending on the number of gazeboes. If fully booked, we will have a waiting list.
4. I have booked 6 months and cannot come one of the months?
Pease let the Tourist Information Centre know on 015395 34026 (answer-phone out of hours) as soon as possible so someone else can take your place. Email: grangetic@southlakeland.gov.uk and robert@promart.info. We have a waiting list of artists looking for a space.
5. How do I carry my stuff?
If you are walking, suitcases on wheels are one possibility, small trucks another. We will put you near one end of the prom to make it easier for you so you do not have so far to walk.
6. Can a car or van be on the prom?
Only previously authorised cars or vans can be allowed due to lack of space (please ask and give registration number). The prom is only 10ft wide in places so cars cannot pass and will have to come through the underpass at the station before 10 a.m. and return after 4 p.m. One way only at each time. The prom will be busy with pedestrians. Safety is paramount, DO NOT SPEED.
7. What if it rains?
You get wet!
Some people bring canopies, put their art within plastic pouches or
have plastic sheets handy. See the photo suggestions later on the “unsuitable weather” page.
As artists prefer to be on the promenade rather than be indoors, we have decided to only provide the out-door option. We will leave it up to each artist to decide whether to come or not. If we think many may come, we will put up signs in the roads around Grange as usual.
8. I may need a toilet?
One is near the children’s play area, not far from Bayley Lane crossing.
9. I need a drink?
The Prom Cafe is near the old pool, serves meals, snacks and ice cream. A dozen other places in Grange are open on Sundays.
10. I mean something stronger!
The Commodore Hotel is near the car park and many other places are available.
